We pulled up to the Hope Hotel at Dayton's Wright
Patterson Air Force Base in the early afternoon and
after checking in we headed to the ballroom on a
scouting mission.
Carol spent a few hours helping friends Bob &
Latosha from Mentor Ohio set up their merchandise
display.
We had a nice dinner at Packy's Restaurant and then
bought some paddles for the paddle auction.
The weekend is a fundraiser for Pirate Packs, a
local charity that provides a weekend food program
for underprivileged children. |
|
|
Bins and
bins full of merchandise, like those shown on the
left, are hauled in by vendors
and
committee members to transform the ballroom into a
shopping mecca for Disney fans.
'The Marketplace' has an unbelievable variety to
choose from! |
|
Everyone
could purchase one or more numbered paddles.
There were more
than 100
prizes and a random paddle number was drawn for each
prize.
If your
number was drawn, you were the winner! |

Carol always buys the 'early-bird' ticket which lets
the 100 early-birds enter the Marketplace at 8:30
a.m. and shop for a full 90 minutes before the doors
open at 10:00 to the general public.
She usually has her shopping all done by 10:00 and
that's when the pin trading begins!

Carol spends a lot of time with
other pin traders and I spend the afternoon enjoying
the seminars involving special Disney guests.
The speakers this year were Disney Legend Tom Nabbe
and our friend Paul Bottos from Hamilton Ontario.
Paul is an avid collector of Mickey Mouse
memorabilia and has been honoured and filmed by the
Disney Corporation on two separate occasions.
After dinner it was time for the
live auction where Anita keeps us highly amused as
she sells a variety of donated items. All
proceeds go to Pirate Packs. |
Two
Halloween wreaths I made for the auction. |

We like to get away before noon on Sunday because
it's a ten-hour drive home. So we always enjoy
a leisurely breakfast at Packy's Restaurant while we
wait for the doors to the Marketplace to open at
10:00 a.m.
Carol does a quick lap around to see what new stuff
the vendors have pulled out from under the tables
before we say our goodbyes and hit the road.

Our
friend Paul Bottos from Hamilton Ontario
was a
speaker at Dayton Disneyana. |
There
were lots of pins for sale. |

the other of the treasures she brought home! |
The
weekend earned $9,000.00 for Pirate Packs.
